Maxing Out on Rainfall

Rainwater Harvesting for Sustainable Irrigation

The Challenge

A customer approached us looking for a sustainable way to irrigate their vegetable crops year-round, without relying on a mains water supply.

The Solution

Our recommendation was to install our largest rainwater harvesting tank—the 10,000-litre model. With enough space available on-site, we were able to fit two tanks, linked with a connector pipe. This setup provided an impressive 20,000 litres of rainwater storage, ensuring the farm could capture and store the maximum amount of rainfall possible.

Smart Use of Space

The tanks were positioned against an existing farm building, making use of the building’s guttering to direct rainwater into the tanks. To ensure only clean water entered the system, we incorporated a high-volume rainwater filter into the pipework attached to the guttering. This filter prevents leaves and debris from reducing the tanks’ capacity or affecting water quality.

Fully Equipped for Irrigation

Each tank was fitted with outlets to allow hoses to be connected directly, making it easy to feed water into the farm’s irrigation system. This makes watering large crop areas efficient and reliable.

The Result

With this rainwater harvesting setup, our customer now enjoys a steady supply of water for irrigation throughout the dry summer months, without the expense of metered mains water. The system supports healthy, productive crops while saving time, money, and valuable resources.
